If Only I Could Change My Circumstances…

How many of you are feeling like this right now? Are you thinking life might be better if you had a different job, a different spouse, a different location, more money, a better car, a bigger house? Some things can potentially be better but if the problem is within you, you can’t move away from it. You can move to another country and still have the same root issues.

Change can never be forced from the outside in. Change begins in the mind. Romans 12:2 says “Do not be conformed to this world”. In other words, don’t try to change yourself from the outside in by conforming to someone’s opinion or the world’s way of doing things. The verse goes on to say, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. To be transformed is to be changed. Do you want to lose weight? It takes a change of mind that leads to a change in your lifestyle. Do you want to experience a change in your financial situation? Your thinking about spending should lead to a difference in the way you distribute and save your money.

While there are times that you do need to change jobs or make a move, examine yourself first to see if the problem isn’t that you choose flight over fight. You can run but you can’t hide. A change of circumstances may not be the Solution. Ask God to reveal His plan to you, and He will do it.

Author: Matthew Winters (The Comeback Pastor)

Born and raised in Portsmouth, VA, I eventually landed in upstate SC because when God calls I move. I gave my life to Christ in 1987 and surrendered to the call to ministry in 1997. I am a three-time graduate from Liberty University and Theological Seminary: BS in Religion (2003), the MA in Religion (Leadership concentration - 2006), and the Master of Divinity (Pastoral Ministries - 2013). I have served as a worship leader and senior pastor in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia since 1996. After experiencing a divorce, God graciously gave me my wife, Jennifer, whom I married in September 2015. Between the two of us, we have 6 children. I am the Lead/Founding Pastor of Overcomers Church in Walhalla, SC, a church plant that is helping those who have been overcome by life to become Overcomers in Christ. Jennifer and I both love people and long to see them enter into a relationship with Christ and walk in the power of His Spirit. I pray that these thoughts I share will challenge and inspire you to greater heights and deeper depths for the glory of Christ.
